What are the precautions for material selection of diaphragm pump castings

In the fluid transmission system, diaphragm pumps have become important equipment in many industrial fields due to their unique leak-free design and excellent fluid transmission efficiency. As a key component of the diaphragm pump, the material selection of diaphragm pump castings plays a vital role in the overall performance, durability and safety of the pump.

When selecting the material of diaphragm pump castings, the first consideration is the corrosiveness of the medium being transmitted. Different fluid media have different degrees of corrosion on the material, so it is particularly important to have a deep understanding of the chemical properties and corrosion characteristics of the medium. In order to ensure that the selected material can effectively resist the erosion of the medium, for example, when conveying highly corrosive media such as sulfuric acid and hydrochloric acid, materials with high corrosion resistance, such as high-alloy stainless steel and fluoroplastic alloys, must be selected. Such materials not only show excellent chemical corrosion resistance, but also maintain long-term stable operating performance under harsh working conditions.

In addition to corrosiveness, the mechanical properties of the material are also an important factor that cannot be ignored when selecting diaphragm pump castings. The diaphragm pump needs to withstand high pressure and stress during operation, so the selected material must have good mechanical strength and toughness to ensure that the pump body will not break or deform under high pressure and high speed operation. Generally, stainless steel and cast iron are the preferred materials for diaphragm pump castings. Stainless steel can withstand greater pressure and stress with its excellent tensile strength and yield strength; while cast iron is an ideal choice for carrying high pressure and large flow fluid transmission due to its high strength and good wear resistance.

In addition, the temperature resistance of the material cannot be ignored. Under certain high temperature conditions, the diaphragm pump casting needs to withstand higher temperatures, and the selected material must have good temperature resistance to ensure that the pump body will not be thermally deformed or fail in a high temperature environment. For example, when conveying high-temperature sulfuric acid or nitric acid and other media, high-temperature resistant materials must be selected, such as titanium and its alloys, high-temperature alloys, etc. These materials not only have excellent thermal stability and oxidation resistance, but also can maintain long-term stable operation in a high temperature environment.
